Name: Undetermined Species

Geologic Age: Ordovician (445 Million Years Old)
Stratigraphic detail:
Lorraine Shale
Location:
Oneida Co., New York
Comments:
From the soft tissue quarry producing the rare trilobites with legs, antennae and internals, comes this excellent pyritized soft body worm.  The worm measures 1cm and is extremely robust and inflated.  The worm is of undetermined species since not enough soft-bodied worms have been found.   On the presumed head of the worm at its tip the pyrite is much more robust which would be consistent for a burrowing worm.  Toward the tail of the worm the body has spaces where the sediment was finer and easily striped away.  This may correlate to alimentary canal.  These types of worms are a rarity.  Few places in the world can produce a 450 million year old soft-bodied worm with such detail, let alone a brilliantly golden one.

Name: Armor Plated Segmented Worm

Geologic Age: Ordovician (445 Million Years Old)
Stratigraphic detail:
Lorraine Shale
Location:
Oneida Co., New York
Comments:  A rare very inflated, pyritized worm from the soft tissue layers producing the best-preserved trilobites in the world!  This is the nicest most inflated (even casts shadow!) and most detailed worm I have ever seen.  The color of the rich golden pyrite against the dark gray matrix is stunning.  The worm itself seems frozen in time, it’s body slightly curved at both ends with presumably its softer “head” at the top a bit squeezed.  On the top of the worm is a darker colored section running the length of the body.  This may correlate to the worms “gut”.  The worm measures 1.4cm and is perfectly prepared.

Segmented New York Worm  2 Price $650.00
