Name: Catfish - Astephus antiquus (and Knightea)
Geologic Age: Eocene
Stratigraphic detail: Green River Formation.. Lake Gosiute
Location: Near Flaming Gorge, Wyoming
Description: This is an ULTRA RARE SPECIMEN!! This specimen came from Lake Gosiute.. the ONLY lake in the Green River where the Catfish are found.. WHEN they are found! The Catfish are only found in the DEEPEST pockets of the ancient lake.. Catfish are RARE to begin with.. but this one is near-perfect!! This catfish is essentially complete from the tip of it's protruding lips.. to the tips of it's tail (some are hidden within the Knightea). The bone preservation and details are fabulous... There have been no repairs, restoration, paint or reconstruction done on this specimen.. the plate is an unbroken plate as well.. Catfish of this quality are almost unheard of!! If you are looking for an ULTRA RARE FISH for your fish collection.. or looking to finish off your Green River Fish collection.. you don't want to miss this one!! Don't let this be the "one that got away"!!! The overall size of this plate is approx. 15" wide x 11" tall x 1/2" thick. The catfish would measure approx. 11" long if outstretched completely... there are also several piles of POOP (Coprolites) laying around on the plate.. This specimen had been "Sold" previously but never left my warehouse.. the "buyer" never paid for it and finally backed out of the deal so it's available again...Green River Catfish $3000.00
