Name: Toredo rectus
Geologic Age: Eocene
Stratigraphic detail: London Clay
Location: London, England
Comments: Toredo rectus is the shipworm. The fossilized wood contains the bored living holes of this worm. Shipworms were the scourge of old sailing ships. These Eocene pieces are all from the same piece of driftwood which the little beasties got hold of. Very Unusual Fossils!! This specimen measures 5 3/16" wide.
