Name: Meadowtownella trentonensisGeologic Age: Middle OrdovicianStratigraphic Detail: Denley FormationLocation: Trenton Falls, New YorkDescription: A truly stunning piece from the famous Trenton Falls of New York State! Meadowtownella trilobites are a spiny member of the Odontopleurid family. They are very hard to find even in localities they are known from. A quick search on the Internet will turn up just a few, and those few are steeply priced for single specimens. Here we have an incredible opportunity. On the underside of a large fragment of a straight nautiloid (Endoceras sp.), nestled close in a tight group, are 4 Meadowtownella trentonensis trilobites! All are ventral as well. From the pictures one can see very clearly the spiny nature and close association of this rare trilobites. The front, back and sides of this species is covered by spines. The three larger specimens measure 1.5cm, which is average size for this species. The nautiloid fragment measures about 6.54 inches long and 2 inches thick.
