Name:        Ceraurus sp.
Geologic Age:    Middle Ordovician
Stratigraphic Detail:  Gull River Formation, Black River Group
Location:   Kingston, Ontario Canada
Description:  This is a one-of-a-kind trilobite. It is a very early undescribed Ceraurus that shows signs of being a Bufoceraurus, a Gabriceraurus and a true Ceraurus. The trilobite is covered with pustules, including on its spines, like a Bufoceraurus. The eyes are positioned in the same way as Gabriceraurus, but it has the general shape of a true Ceraurus. It predates all of them. This trilobite comes from an isolated shale fauna in the Gull River formation of Ontario, Canada. The preparator was not sure the pygidium was intact and decided it was more aesthetic to have the trilobite seem to emerge from a mass of ostracods.
