Name:  Undescribed Calymene
Geologic Age: Middle Ordovician
Stratigraphic detail:
Black River Group
Location:
Near Watertown New York

Comments:  Calymene’s are not listed in fauna inclusive of the Black River Group limestone, which underlies the famous Trenton Group.  This Calymene measures 1.5 inches (3.7cm), and is very inflated, standing about 1cm tall.  The calymene was found entangled in branching bryzoans, which caused some denting to the exoskeleton.  The denting gives this specimen an interesting texture.

The general shape of the trilobite is unique.  It has an elongated “shovel nose” with steep angles on the free cheeks and very long genal spines as far as calymenid’s go.  It also has somewhat of a bulbous glabella.
