Trilobite Trackways!

Cruziana is a trilobite trackway exhibiting  "herringbone" (chevron-like) ridges defining a medial groove; the bilobed character is also a result of two parallel furrows that are, in many cases, formed in a fine-grained sediment and preserved as casts on the base of an overlying bed. Ridges within the trail are scratch marks. The locomotion traces made by trilobites as they crawled along a sediment surface are very uncommon.

Comments:  Here is one of the best trace fossils of trilobite tracks ever found in Indiana. This piece was part of the Maggie Kahrs estate collection that was just auctioned off a couple of weeks ago. Maggie Kahrs collected fossils for over 40 years and amassed one of the largest collection of minerals and fossils in the Midwest. This piece was one pf her shoepiece specimens that has very distinct trilobite tracks from two different types of trilobites, plus what looks like the impression of a trilobite. The smaller tracks measure an astounding approximate 50" in length while the larger track measures 4 1/2" in length. The trilobite impression measures 1 3/4" long. This is a killer display piece and happens to come from the collection of one of the nicest and most respected collectors in the Midwest. Overall length of the matrix is 23" long x 8" wide.
