England Stromatolite

Fossil Stromatolites are colonies of Algae that are the earliest known living organisms in the fossil record.  These specimens have been cut and polished to bring out the exquisite beauty that they possess.  Very interesting specimens!  This particular stromatolite is thought to be 3 separate, symbiotic colonies!  It is commonly referred to as "Landscape Marble" due to the fact that when viewed, the algae colonies appear to be outdoor landscape scenes....  (The WHITE AREAS in the photos are the lights reflecting off of the polished surfaces)
