Conodonts are extinct chordates
resembling eels, classified in the class Conodonta. For many years, they were
known only from tooth-like microfossils now called conodont elements, found in
isolation. The animals are also called Conodontophora (conodont bearers) to
avoid ambiguity.
The Beechwood
Member of the Vernon Limestone contains a typical Upper Indiana Devonian Conodont fauna.
The Beechwood
is a marine limestone that represents a transitional deposit from the end of the
Famennian (latest Devonian) and grades
without interruption into deposits of the Kinderhookian (earliest
Mississippian).
Each specimen is mounted in a micropalaeontology
well-slide and housed in an aluminum slip case with glass cover slide.
This packaging makes the fossils a little more expensive than I would
normally charge, but I consider it acceptable
because of the easier access and greater protection afforded the specimen. Each
of these specimens measures approx. ~1 mm
I have several specimens of each type available. Photos are representative of the specimen you will receive.
