Messel Fish

Bowfins are extremely rare anywhere--even today with modern specimens, and the Messel specimens are some of the rarest fish available in the world.  This group represents the last of the Messel that my supplier from Germany has.. collected in the 70's.  These are some of the most affordable specimens you will ever find

Comments: This is a very nice, high quality, very well detailed example of an Amia from the Messel Shales.  Messel fossils are almost impossible to obtain anymore since the location has been closed to commercial collecting for years and is only worked by the Academics who destroy all but the rarest fossils when they are working.  The fish itself measures 7 5/8" long and the overall size of the resin piece is 10 5/8" x 6 5/8".
