New York Jellyfish

Almost all Jellyfish fossils are simple trace fossils amounting to depressions and outlines.  These newly found examples from New York are not.  These jellies are wonderfully inflated and incredibly detailed casts.  Much of the surface detail of each Jellyfish has been replicated in extremely fine-grained sediment and buried quickly and in near anoxic conditions shielding the carcasses from decay and allowing for quick preservation.
