Name: Fossil "Maggots"
Geologic Age: Eocene
Stratigraphic detail: Florissant Fossil Beds
Location: Florissant, Colorado
Comments: Florissant Fossil Beds provide a peak into ancient North America through its excellent collection of fossilized plants and insects, including specimens of ancient palm trees, giant katydids and enormous redwood trees. Volcanic eruptions formed the fossil bed when they sent lava and mud into the Florissant Basin, capturing insects, leaves, and fish. Mud flows protected the fossil beds until erosion finally exposed the preserved specimens. This is a plate full of "Maggots" or larvae of some flying insect. Very unusual and rare!!
Colorado Maggots 1 $95.00
