The fossil record tells us that insects have been around for at least 370 million years.
One of the most abundant and diverse fossil deposits of insects in the world is the Chapada do Araripe plateau in Brazil. The predominate formation is the Santana Formation , and is Cretaceous in age. The preservation of the insects is generally quite good with features clear enough to allow conclusive identification of many of the specimens.

Comments: This is an EXTREMELY RARE FOSSIL. This
specimen came out of Brazil over 20 years ago. Scorpions are among the
rarest fossils found in the Santana Formation. This specimen measures 1
15/16" wide. This specimen is exceptional.. with both arms, the body, a
few of the legs and the tail intact, this is one of the finest specimens
you'll see available on the open market.
