Description: This 6 1/4" long complete fish with all of its fins and nice scale detail is from the Mid-Devonian (390 million years old) Scotland. This is a Positive/Negative Plate. You get both halves. Osteoplepis is a memeber of the Sarcopterygiians, the group of fish that evolved into the first animals to walk on land. Like tetrapods, the Sarcopterygiians had paired fins (limbs) and internal nares. The group was thought to be extinct at the end of the Cretaceous, until the amazing discovery of the Coelacanth fish off the coast of Africa in 1938. This graceful example has just the tip of the tail high-lighted.Osteolepsis 1 - Price $975.00
