Notice the vascular grooves that are present on most specimens... the frill was highly vascular. It is believed that the frill was responsible for helping regulate the temperature of the Ceratoposian as well as providing protection.

Name: Torosaurus latus
Geologic Age: Upper Cretaceous
Stratigraphic detail: Hell Creek Formation
Location: Harding County, South Dakota
Description: Excellent frill! This was not a surface find.. it was dug up, thus the beautiful, rich, chocolate brown bone preservation! This specimen was found articulated but cracked in multiple places. The cracks have all be repaired and stabilized. The entire section has been stabilized with Vinac. No reconstruction. This area of frill was beginning to get very thin... thus the back of the plate has been reinforced. Note the ridge detail at the smaller end, and compare with the photo at the top of the page.. this will give you an idea exactly WHERE this section was located on the animal.. Very, very nice!! Measures approx. 16" x 20". This frill is from a different type of Ceratopsian.. a Torosaurus as opposed to the typical Triceratops horridus. Much more scarce!!!Torosaurus Frill 1 $650.00
