Chengjiang Cambrian
Soft Body Invertebrates
All specimens on this page are from the Chengjiang Shales of China. This Cambrian fauna is noted for
the remarkable preservation of internal organs and other soft parts of many invertebrates. Rarely
preserved soft bodied forms such as worms are preserved in the shales. Each specimen is preserved
on a piece of shale measuring 1 to 2 inches wide.
Fossils from this site are not the easiest to figure out as they take many weird and
wonderful shapes, but persevere with this bunch and you'll see many show details (such as distinct
segmentation) that you might not immediately notice.

Name: Canadaspis eucallus 1a, 1b, 1c - Cambrian, Chengjiang, China. - A very nice specimen of this uncommon species (carapace only) surrounded by a mat of "filamentous algae". It shows good detail on the surface of the carapace shell.
