Name: Furcaster palaeozoicus, Mimetaster hexagonalis, Orthoceras sp.
Geologic Age: Devonian
Location: Hunsruck Slate, Bundenbach, Germany
Description: This specimen contains five separate fossils: three starfish, one orthocone, and one odd marine arthropod called a mimetaster. All of the fossils are finely preserved in pyrite, which is especially noticeable in the legs of the mimetaster. Mass mortality plates such as this are especially rare; were the starfish caught in the act of fleeing the mimetaster??
