Description: This specimen contains five separate fossils: three starfish, one orthocone, and one odd marine arthropod called a mimetaster. All of the fossils are finely preserved in pyrite, which is especially noticeable in the legs of the mimetaster. Mass mortality plates such as this are especially rare; were the starfish caught in the act of fleeing the mimetaster?? Description: This is a very nice, very well prepared specimen. The plate contains 2 Furcaster Starfish with some exceptional preservation, as well as a RARE Hapalocrinus Crinoid with a complete stem. Overall size of the plate is between 11" & 12" on the slant (the way the plate was cut) and over 8" tall. The larger starfish measures well over 4" long.
